This is a JPEG of my final project. I did it on West Nile Virus cases in Humans since it's outbreak in the US in 1999. The data used was 1999 through 21 October 2008, and from the CDC.

Lab #10 - Image Overlay in Google Earth

This is a map of Seattle and the area's large highways. This one took a bit more tweeking to make it fit closely. I think I did a pretty good job with it. It was easier to line up because of the roads and land/water boundaries.

This is my overlay of Mt. Rainer National Park. I picked this because I figured it would be good for the topo changes and draping. This was a bit hard to line up because I needed to check back and forth to find the towns like Sunrise.

LAB #8 - Geography Tool of the Future

This is my geography tool of the future, it is a remote sensing adaptor. It can be carried around, and like most new technology (ie Computers) it is bulky in its first application, I predict this will get smaller in a few years. :)

Map Festival

While the Map Exhibit in Baltimore was a while ago, I will do my best to remember things about it. I am not super into maps, well I wasn’t at first, but I am more so now than I was before GEOG 310.  It was cool to see maps made of so many things like a glove, and clay tablets. I have seen clay tablet maps in the movie, but it is WAY different when you see it in person, doesn’t look the same at all… that’s also probably because in the movies they aren’t real. It was nice that it was only so crowded, it could have been worse if they didn’t only a certain number of people in at a time. Like others have said it was cool to see maps that we have seen in books, like the Cholera Map.

It would have been cool to get pictures of the exhibit, but they didn’t allow pictures from what I remember. But I can see why they wouldn’t. The exhibit wasn’t as big as I thought it would be, I remember thinking it was only a few rooms, and they had to be hiding more somewhere else!

LAB # 5

I can not find a site that will support both the swf and flash files. I have been looking since last night. Photobucket will no longer support those files for free, the Mason cluster account is a pain, and the SwfUP site you suggested is not working, and image shack had a limit for the size of the file, and my map is over it. I emailed the files to you.

So this is just a JPEG of the flash movie i created.

I think this is the last posting I need. I have been looking on our class 411 blog page and Martha, Ryan and Kevin's pages also to make sure I got them all. This is a link to Seattle's Interactive Music Map. Seattle being one of my favorite places and overflowing with music nd music history seemed like a good choice.

This site gives you a map of land marks, and then you can click to see pictures, and info about the site, such as the Jimmy Hendrix statue. Seattle is where Jimmy is buried.

This is a census map of Languages spoken at home in the 2000 census. I like this just because it is so diverse, and its something I am interested in.

I checked out the website and liked a bunch of the maps there. This is a dot map of commercial wireless antennas in the USA. I picked this one because it always make me laugh to see how built up the east coast is compared to the west coast. I like population density maps like this also.

This lab was ok. I dont really enjoy drawing lines. I had some problems with the images matching up like you said, i had to redo somelines... but I think they look pretty close.

This is where I got the idea for my map. I found it and hated how it looked! So I put my own spin on it and added a few disasters.

I love this map because of the color. Everytime I see this map I stop to look at it.

Again, I love the color on this map, and the transparent effect of the circles.

I just love the outhouse symbol!!

This lab took a while due to finding the info, but after that I enjoyed it. I had alot of fun makng the corn symbol. I am happy with the way this turned out.

LAB #9- COLOR!!!!!!

I really like using color..... gray scale is soooo boring! :)

My print out of my LAB 8 Color map looks almost exactly l ike the digital map on my blog. The only difference I can see is the shade of blue for the 11.0-11.8%, it looks like it had more purple in it on paper. I changed the shade for the value oif 10.1-10.9% lastnight because that shade for that value looked too much like the shade for the 7.4-9.9% value on the screen. I think this lab turned out well.

I really liked this lab. While working on it i realized that you can not see Washington, D.C., and in my maps it is important because in both it is the only "state" in that range, so I enlarged it. I didnt put a scale with the enlargement becuase it is also in the continental US map.

These are maps of the percent of each state's population that has completed a bachelor's degree or higher.

DOWNTOWN SEATTLE TOURIST MAP

I picked this map because it has a few different fonts on it, and it has examples of the text flowing with the feature it is identifying, such as the text Lake Washington Ship Canal (on the left lower corner).

FUN SEATTLE AREA MAP

I picked this map because it is fun, and because it has some no-no's on it. For example, the text for Lake Union (in the center of the map) is not totally in the water, and the text for Madison Park overlaps the water and land.

DC METRO MAP

I picked this map because it is familiar to most people who live in the DC area, and it also shows good examples of typography. The font is clear, and the text is slanted in places, and verticle in others depending on the shape of the line.

This is my Lab. I liked working on it until the pen came into the picture. Yeah, we weren't working well together at first but then it came to understand who is boss. The only problem I have now is that my stupid printer wants to put verticle lines in the gradient... I dont know what to do about that. So all and all I think I did an awesome job. :) haha

USGS Geography Site - This site has information on geography in our changing world, job opportunities, and much more. There is also a very nice imagery gallery and a featured science section that I really like, with articles on a range of topics.

National Geographic Map Machine - This site is great because it gives you so many option to view the world in maps. You can look at road maps, satellite imagery on maps, physical maps, disaster maps, weather maps and so much more. I have always loved National Geographic for their photos and articles which you can also get through the featured places section under the world map.

World Atlas.com - Here you can find great maps on continents, atlases for travel, student, featured maps, facts, a link to find out what time it is anywhere in the world, its a great site to explore and get lost in. I think this would be very useful in this and any geography class.

Wikipedia Geography Article - I think this page is great because people from all over can put information into an article making it more useful. This article gives the history if geography as well as explains with example the types of geography.

Test Your Geography Knowledge - This is an awesome site because you can click anywhere in the world and get a quiz on a map and knowledge of that area or country. This page could have helped Ms. South Carolina with her answer.

Maps and Map Games - Here you can find state capitols quizzes, jigsaw puzzles, and games for each continent. At the bottom is a Super Quiz Map Game- you have to be able to answer which country (anywhere) is high-lighted. Just more cool ways to test what you think you know.
